Yesteryear Collection

On the 26th May 1918 Miss Florence White, a former school teacher aged 45, was appointed to Salisbury City becoming the first Woman Police Officer in Wiltshire. She served for seven years before moving to Birmingham and subsequent promotion to Inspector.
Her successor in Salisbury, Miss Elsie Monland, had her role described to the Watch Committee in 1931 as “ordinary police duties” with “a considerable amount of necessary although unofficial welfare and rescue work”.
In 1953 the first Woman Police Sergeant was promoted in Wiltshire although woman remained in a separate department until 1977.
Woman Police Sergeant, Anne Egen has commissioned this third Wiltshire Constabulary model in recognition of the changing role of women in the Constabulary. Monies raised will be donated to Police Charities.
